In this installment of “On the Road With Soyuz”, musician and producer, Butch Walker, demonstrates his technique of recording singer-songwriters with a single microphone, the 017 TUBE. He tells the story of how he used this same setup on a key song that ended up on his last album, ‘Stay Gold’.
Butch shows two different starting positions for this technique and explains how each position can work depending on the sound you’re going for– but the more important thing is that you’re always ready to record. As Butch says, “It’s a good lesson to learn that there really are no demos. If it’s right it’s right. Sometimes you get lucky and the first take you can’t ever get that magic again no matter how many times you rehearse it.”
