I put it [the SU-017] up against my best tube U47 – which is my all time favourite mic… What was crazy was just how close sounding your mic was to the best mic in the world… I would definitely say that I would use this mic over many others in practical use.

Wow. Quite blown away by the sound. I compared [Bomblet and SU-017] to my holy grail 47 and 251, and they happily live on the same city block, which is a tiny snobby elitist block!!!!

The 017 TUBE is one of the best vocal mics I’ve ever used and compares favorably with the best vintage mics from the classic era. The 017 FET is very similar in sound quality, and has become a first-choice vocal mic since it arrived here at Electrical Audio. The BOMBLET gets used a lot for guitar cabinets, and the accessory attenuator makes it extremely versatile. I use the 013 FETs on acoustic instruments regularly and love their striking clarity. With omni capsules, they are fantastic ambient room mics and good general-use condenser mics.

After 25 years, my vintage Telefunken U47 has been pushed to the back of the mic closet. The Soyuz SU-017 is now my first choice for vocals, acoustic guitar or any other musical priority.

The [013 FET] mics sound great as overheads. Focused and clear. For me, it’s a great snapshot of the kit from above. They remind me of 84s but they have bigger shoulders and are a little taller.

Butch Walker
David brought the SU-017 over to my Studio and I plugged it in and replayed an acoustic track and re-sang a lead vocal on the spot that I ended up keeping for the final version. It sounded immediately ten times better than what I had done with much more body and character. It’s never harsh which is great because I love things bright and exciting. It’s also the most bitchin’ lookin’ mic I’ve ever seen. Quality build and tough. I will be getting more of these mics, that’s for certain.
