What is an IR?

An IR, short for impulse response, is an audio recording that is meant to capture of the signature of a physical space, speaker cabinet, or recording chain. In this case, for electric guitar amps, an IR essentially models the way a specific guitar speaker or cabinet sounds when it’s mic’d up, allowing you to “re-create” that setup in a recording or live performance setting.
